Donate your Blood

Today @ 4:30 PM, we headed to the Central Blood Bank located in Jabriya area for a blood donation, usually I donate every 3-4 months, so this time I wanted to take the chance and post about it since I have noticed that many people have fears to donate, I think partly because they think its a painful procedure or that it may have side-effects or other health consequences, well I am here today to prove this is wrong, blood donation is very healthy, renewal process of the blood is improved as a result.
First thing we did when we arrived to the bank is heading to the reception which located just by the entrance
All you need is to give them your civil ID and they will hand you a very easy form to fill (selections only), that shouldn’t take you more than 2 minutes maximum to fill it.
After filling the form, you go to a room where they test your blood percentage, pressure, temperature and weight to make sure that everything is OK and that you can donate your blood. In my case the Nurse told me that I have a problem in my heart rate, so I have to rest at least for 30 minutes before going through the donating process, to make sure that my heart rate is back to normal.
If everything turns out OK, then you head to the blood donation room, where a competent and skillful nurse will have you laid on a comfortable bed.
The nurse asks you which hand you would like to donate from, I chose right, then she simply re-measure the blood pressure, sanitize the spot with a disinfection solution. Then use a small needle for donation, I mean all you feel is a slight prick, nothing more and rest is totally painless. They even give you a ball to squeeze to make the blood flow easier.
The donation procedure itself takes no more than a few minutes and the nurse is there all the time if you need anything. The amount of blood you donate is 500ml, which is only about 10% of your total blood. Now guess what a new fresh blood is produced by your body.
Advantages of Donating your Blood:
  1. A New Fresh Blood is Produced by your Body.
  2. Reduce Cancer Risk.
  3. Reduce Heart Attack Risk.
  4. Lower the iron levels in your body every time you give blood, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
